Are you ready for your February Confetti Challenge? This 1 is for groupies.

“February is a really important month for groups,” says Nicole Bursey, Transat’s Commercial Director, Ontario & Atlantic Canada. “As well as arranging the final details for groups leaving this year, agents are attending weddings shows and starting to book for next winter. With our Confetti Challenge and some great incentives, we’re working to help agents close the sale.”

Bursey says that since much of Transat’s group business is destination weddings – not to mention the fact that love is in the air in February as Valentine’s month – it made sense to give Confetti prizing a romantic theme.

Here’s the result: the top three agents in Canada selling Transat wedding groups during the month of February will win the following gift cards:

  • $1,000 at Tiffany & Co.
  • $200 at the Liquor Store (or provincial equivalent)
  • $200 at Victoria’s Secret
  • $100 at Godiva Chocolatier

The agency of the winning sellers will get some love too, in the form of $1,000 in cash and an entry into the year-end draw for a $25,000 cash prize.

To assist agents in their sales efforts, Transat offers a number of group advantages, including a group price promise, no deposit weddings and a $500 future travel voucher for the bride and groom. An early booking promotion should help drive wedding business too. The 16th guest stays free at over 100 hotels in the Transat portfolio. Bursey also points out that at some of the most popular resorts for Transat weddings the 11th guest stays free.

Transat Holidays and Nolitours have also teamed with Meliá Hotels International Cuba on a ‘Wedding Date & Time Guaranteed’ offer at 2 popular wedding resorts – Meliá Cayo Guillermo and Meliá Las Dunas. It’s a nice selling point – the bride and groom can select their wedding date and time from available options, provide a deposit and the Transat groups agent will add it to the booking and confirm via email.

“Our groups teams are hard at work already providing quotes and booking groups for winter 2015-16,” says Bursey. “With Valentine’s Day approaching we are geared up to help agents with destination weddings. Our 2015-16 brochure will be available in the spring but agents shouldn’t wait until then to start working on their group business.”

Bursey says Transat enhanced its group process last year with the launch of an automated group quoting tool on Agent Direct.

“The online group quote tool has greatly improved the response time and we thank the early adopters who embraced the new tool. Old habits die hard, but those who have made the switch are pleased with the efficiency,” Bursey says.

What’s in store for the March Confetti Challenge? And April? And May? Bursey isn’t telling. “We want to keep an element of surprise,” she says.

Each month, Transat will use to Confetti to focus agents on its key sales objectives. As the winter South program winds down with its emphasis on the value-added offerings of Transat’s ‘Collections,’ Europe will take centre stage. And Bursey says there’s lots to talk about this year.

“With increased service to many of our most popular Europe vacation spots, we feel that it is even easier for agents to promote the land product that we have to offer. We encourage agents to discuss accommodation, tours, car rentals and more as soon as a client asks for a transatlantic flight. All a traveller needs to plan a European vacation is the advice of a good travel agent and the 2015 Transat Holidays Europe brochure.”

Central Europe is an important destination for Transat this summer, with new service from YYZ and YUL to BUD combining with last year’s debut of PRG. Bursey says Transat will share a new sales piece focused on Central Europe at the upcoming training academies.

It will be also be easier for more agents to sell Transat’s Europe program this year, Bursey says, thanks to domestic flights from Vancouver to Toronto and from Halifax and Quebec City to Montreal timed to match up with overseas flights from the 2 largest gateways.

Whatever the sales priority for the month, Bursey promises that Confetti will make it fun, with some creative prizing surprises for the months to come.

“Some months the prizes will be cash-focused while others will feature great merchandise and travel. All I can say is that it will be lots of fun – for us and the agents who sell our products,” says Bursey.

“It’s not always as fun as it used to be in this business, and we wanted to bring some of that back. I think it’s working.”
