Why so generous, Transat?

Cash prizes of $28,000 in November, 2014. $38,000 in December. A cruise vacation in January.

“I’ve been around over 20 years and I don’t remember a program as rich,” says Nicole Bursey, TTC Commercial Director, Ontario & Atlantic Canada. “It’s also rare for a program to reward both agencies and agents.”

The goal of Confetti is to reward top-selling agents in a very tangible way.

During each month of the year-long program a different sales challenge is being issued, based on a key sales priority. In November it was ITC South & Cruise. In December it was all Transat brands and products, with winners in 19 Canadian gateways. January has a cruise focus and February puts the spotlight on groups.

But why Confetti, when Transat already has the popular agent incentive program Bon Bon?

“Our partners love Bon Bon,” says Bursey. “We always hear great stories about what people do with their rewards, like buying drinks for a family reunion or baby furniture for an upcoming arrival. Bon Bon is alive and good. Confetti is something different,” she continues.

“We want to add a bit of excitement and fun to what we already offer. Most of all, we really want to honour our top-sellers.”

Bursey says the goal of Confetti isn’t to shift market-share, though she wouldn’t likely complain if that was the result.

“It’s more about keeping us top of mind, of reinforcing what Transat is about.”

Rewarding the agencies in addition to the agent is an important part of the program. In November, four agents won $5,000 each and their agencies each received $2,000. In December, 19 agents and 19 agencies received $1,000 each. At the end of the promotion, a $25,000 prize will be awarded to the agency of 1 of the winning travel sellers.

“We think that’s a very important element,” says Bursey. “Nobody succeeds on their own. It’s a team effort.”

There are plenty of surprises to come in the months ahead, Bursey says. “The prizes are awesome. A lot of creativity has come into designing the prize packages.”

  • In January, the agent who sells the most Transat cruises will get to take off on a Celebrity Cruises vacation for 2 in a veranda stateroom, with air included, while their agency will receive $1,000 cash.
  • In February – Valentine’s month – the top 3 sellers of Transat wedding groups will each win a Romance Package, featuring a $1,000 Tiffany & Co. gift card, $200 liquor store gift card, $200 Victoria’s Secret gift card and a $100 Godiva Chocolatier gift card. The winners’ home agencies will each win $1,000 in cash and be entered into the annual draw for $25,000.

It’s not just agents having fun with Confetti. Paying surprise visits to agencies – or airports – to award prizes is no doubt 1 of the better assignments Transat reps have this year.

“It’s a lot of fun,” says Bursey. “We try to keep it a secret and then show up with a confetti gun, a trophy and the prize. The reactions are fantastic and we’ve received great comments from national chains.”

Transat will be amping up the fun over the next several months on private Facebook pages which will include photos of winners and video of their reactions when the Transat prize ambush takes place.

Will Confetti be a 1-year wonder or could the concept continue down the road? “We’re tackling it as a 12-month program, then we’ll review, gather feedback and see what results it brought. The good part is that even if agents don’t win 1 of the big prizes, they’ll still earn Bon Bon rewards for their efforts. So there’s something in it for everyone.”

Hello Claudie, you do not have to register for Confetti nor do you have to track your bookings. Transat does it all for the agents. Good luck!
