Tauck On Water – Small Is The New Luxury

An incomparable land product now shines on the water

Tauck is increasingly answering past-passenger demand with water-based journeys, on the rivers of Europe and the great lakes and oceans of the world.

A major thing that sets Tauck apart, whether on river cruises or small-ship expeditions, is the presence of four full-time Tauck directors on every sailing. A Cruise Director and three Tour Directors enable Tauck to offer a consistent level of highly personalized service.

“We approach our water-based product the same way as on land, enabling people to see more places and experience them in a Tauck way,” says Steve Spivak, Tauck’s VP Global Sales and Partner Relations.

The Tauck ‘H2O’ product lines continue to expand, and Spivak says the approach underlines the company’s commitment to “going small” with fewer passengers aboard.

Tauck River Cruising: A Deep Dive Into Destinations

A Tauck river cruise is an all-inclusive experience where fine food, drinks and incredible onshore experiences are part of one upfront price.

A fleet of eight – soon to be nine --  riverboats cruise Europe's inland waterways exclusively for Tauck. All have been built or completely redesigned within the past four years.

The 110m. (361-ft.) ships carry no more than 98 guests, and the 135m. (443-ft.) ships accommodate up to 130 pax.

Cabins and suites are spacious and appointed like a luxury hotel -- including the most 300-square-foot suites on Europe's rivers. There are fewer passengers than on ships of comparable size, creating an intimate, sophisticated ambiance.

Next year will see the launch of the ms Andorinha, an 80-meter (263-foot) riverboat specifically designed for cruising amidst the historic quintas and picturesque villages along Portugal’s Douro River. The stylish ship is custom-built to accommodate no more than 84 guests within an innovative deck plan featuring 12 300-sq. ft. Tauck Suites and 20 225-sq. ft. cabins.

The ms Andorinha will feature three different itineraries, including the only family-focused offering on the Douro as part of the Tauck Bridges program.

On Tauck land journeys, guests enjoy uncommon access to exclusive cultural experiences on included excursions ashore, ensuring experiences as memorable as the places visited.

“The distinguishing factor of river cruising is that it’s not a hotel experience, it’s a destination experience. And we have 94 years of unparalleled expertise,” says Spivak.

That said, the Tauck onboard experience is extraordinary, and the price includes all gratuities, shore excursions, unlimited WiFi, and complimentary beverages including regional wine, beer, premium spirits, specialty coffee and water. There’s a lively entertainment and enrichment program too, including lectures, folkloric presentations, music, dancing and tastings.

Spivak says river cruising now represents a significant portion of overall Tauck guests. Fully half of the passengers buying river programs are new to Tauck, making it a perfect introduction to the brand – and more than likely, future business.

Tauck Small-Ships: The Joy Of Travelling Small

Small ships are the next big thing for Tauck. Offering both full-ship and partial ship charters with partner lines including Ponant, Windstar and Silversea, the company plans to double its small-ship cruise capacity over four years.

Much of that growth will come with long-time partner Ponant, which is in the midst of a building boom. But there’s also a new Galápagos program that will use Silversea Cruises' highly rated Silver Galapagos.

“Right now, our demand far exceeds our capacity for small-ship cruises,” says Jackie Coulson, Managing Director International Sales. “Our demographic will pay more for that up close and intimate experience.”

With Tauck small ship cruising, your clients can set sail on yachts and expedition vessels to ports where bigger ships can’t go... with fewer guests onboard, more intimate settings and more personalized service.

One price comes complete with all-included experiences ashore that inspire with unique access to history, nature, culture and daily life.

“There’s a reason people travel with Tauck,” says Spivak. “Because we offer experiences you just can’t have anywhere else.”

On a Tauck small ship cruise, "inclusive" means exactly that – virtually every cruise cost is included in one upfront price. There are no extra charges for meals or shore excursions, and there are no hidden or "surprise" expenses.
