Travel Agent Appreciation Month Prizes

A little something to say thank you

Travel agents are worth celebrating, says WestJet's Director of Agency Sales Jane Clementino.

She should know, having spent nearly 20 years of her career on that side of the business, in senior roles with Rider Travel/HRG North America, Navigant and Sears Travel.

“I know the value they bring. I understand the relationships they have with their customers and I respect those relationships. Most of all, I admire the resilience of travel agents. The industry has morphed many times and this resilient group continues to innovate, reinvent and remain relevant. It’s great to see, and it’s something I’m proud to celebrate in my role at WestJet.”

Planning WestJet’s 2nd annual Travel Agent Appreciation Month – which kicks off May 1, has been one of many projects keeping Clementino busy since joining the airline last November. She says the agent contest that is the focus of the month is bigger and better than last year – and easier to enter too.

"Most of all, I admire the resilience of travel agents."

“We’re using improved software this year because feedback was that it was a bit onerous to submit bookings last year. Now it’s easy and agents will earn an entry for every booking, and they can play a trivia game to earn more entries. Most important, we have a fantastic set of prizes.”

Ah yes, the prizes. There are 60 in total, including:

  • 6 grand prizes of WestJet Vacations packages for two to sun destinations such as Cancun, Puerto Vallarta, Barbados and Nassau.
  • 4 round-trip flights for two to any WestJet scheduled destination.
  • 10 round-trip flights for two to any scheduled WestJet destination in Canada or U.S.
  • 10 round-trip flights for two to any scheduled WestJet destination in Canada.
  • 20 prizes of $100 WestJet dollars.
  • 10 prizes of $50 WestJet dollars.

Agents can register for the contest by visiting Once registered, you can login to submit bookings made between May 1-May 31 with WestJet and WestJet Vacations. Every WestJet Vacations booking will earn you 5 ballots, while every WestJet ticket booked earns one ballot. All bookings must be submitted by June 2 to be eligible.

This year, WestJet has added a trivia game component, giving entrants the ability to earn additional bonus ballots by answering a series of questions about the airline and tour operator each week.

“The questions are intended to test their knowledge and familiarity of our Plus product, WestJet Rewards, our travel agent resource site, the WestJet Vacations interactive brochure and other topics,” says Clementino.

“We encourage all travel agents, industry partners and suppliers to join us in celebrating Travel Agent Appreciation Month.”

“The top 10 entrants with the most ballots will appear on our leaderboard on the site which should generate a little friendly competition amongst agents.”

WestJet is hoping that agents will help them make a splash during Travel Agent Appreciation Month.

“We encourage all travel agents, industry partners and suppliers to join us in celebrating Travel Agent Appreciation Month,” says Clementino. “We’d love to see how you’re celebrating on Twitter and Facebook. Be sure to tag WestJet (@WestJet) and use the hashtag #hoorayfortas in your communications and postings,” she adds.

“We’re more committed to the travel trade than ever and we want to continue to build partnerships,” says Clementino.

“We will continue to communicate and work to understand each other’s needs. We want to be easy to do business with and we want to show our appreciation of our partners. That’s what this month is all about.”

I find Westjet much more friendly to hard working travel agents, hope they reconsider eliminating our hard work commissions!

I love WestJet for myself and my clients. I did not like all the standing we had to do at your trade show in Toronto. Lets work together on a better concept.

I am VERY disappointed that Westjet feels they HAVE to follow Air Canada\'s lead in cutting our pay. I thought Westjet was a leader!

It's hard to accept the fact the WestJet once again posted quarterly record earnings but is still going to eliminate TA commission on some fares. What a contradiction! Can we survive any more blows to OUR bottom line?

I love selling WestJet, your staff always make my clients Happy!

Westjet (and Porter) have been my favorite sched, carriers for over a decade but if you eliminate our commission, we have little desire to give you business. Westjet was always the airline I chose to book, on any route it flew, over the competition, because of the 7% commission. I would rather you raise your rates and give us the commission than to eliminate it and ultimately decrease your business and our caring for you.\
What happened to, \\\"Westjeters care\\\"? Apparently your Board of Directors doesn\\\'t and the airline\\\'s business will suffer along with our disappointment in an otherwise fine organization.

Unfortunately I support any airline who supports me. Your choice for not paying out commissions any more has made me change my mind about your airline and will now book Air Canada as we still get commissions from them. Sorry not sorry!

I continue to use Westjet as one of my sources for air travel for my clients. It is unfortunate that agents are no longer paid commission for our efforts on some fights.

I'd rather be rewarded with commission on all fares than occasional contests. Where did WestJet "the leader" go? Being a "follower" is so disappointing.

It's always fun to participate in a contest Although cutting TA commissions doesn't seem very supportive to me.

We love supporting WestJet, just sad that you have decided to cut our commission! It is making our job much harder!
