Dreaming Of Outdoor Adventure

If it’s an outdoor sport, chances are California has a place to play

Whether your client is a die-hard adventurer seeking adrenaline-pumping white-water rafting in Yosemite, or a nature-lover looking to experience the outdoors on a slow, scenic hike, California has just what they’re looking for.

Surf kiting in San Francisco

“With a landscape that is as diverse as it is vast, there’s no better place to ‘get out there,’” explained Pamela Pereira, travel trade manager at Visit California Canada. “They can catch the winter wave and hang ten with some world class surfing, or ‘get tubed’ with unparalleled ski and snowboard experiences available at the winter resorts along the Sierra Nevada -- home to one of the longest ski seasons in North America. There are also endless opportunities for kayaking, waterskiing, zip-lining, hiking, golfing and experiencing all the adventure of our live music festivals.”

From cycling over San Francisco’s Golden Gate Bridge to see the mighty redwoods in Muir County to exploring the Gold Country roads around Sacramento and the deserts outside Greater Palm Springs, there are endless outdoor adventure opportunities available in California to tempt those lucrative adventure travellers.

Yosemite National Park

“It’s important to work out if your client is looking for soft adventure like hiking and fishing, or if they are more rugged adventurers looking for an adrenaline rush with rock climbing or kite surfing,” added Pereira.

“Also consider where your adventure client is from and what kind of research they may have already done. If they are from western Canada, are they interested in skiing in one of California’s amazing ski resorts, or perhaps hiking in Yosemite? If they are from eastern Canada would star-gazing in Death Valley be of interest, or hiking in Greater Palm Springs?”

Alternatively, consider blending a little luxury with your outdoor adventure offering, as Barbara Mengue Mbo, Account Manager of Partnerships. at ACV, explained: “Our full-day private wine tour of Sonoma County out of San Francisco includes zip-lining and horseback riding. Clients enjoy a full day of fun with their own chauffeur in an executive sedan or SUV, as well as a lunch in scenic Russian River Downtown and photo-ops at the north point of the Golden Gate Bridge.
