A pretty good start by any measure.

A renowned global hospitality brand’s foray into the all-inclusive world was bound to attract plenty of attention – and plenty of criticism if it wasn’t done well. The latter has been the case, thanks to Hyatt’s long experience with hospitality and its wise partnership with Playa Resorts, whose leaders bring decades of upscale all-inclusive experience.

Every one of the Ziva and Zilara properties has achieved AAA 4-Diamond status.

Rose Cosentino, Playa’s Director of Sales, Canada, says Canadian agents and travellers are taking notice.

“Our team of 3 in Canada (with Freddie Marsh handling the west and Amanda Morris the east), hosted a series of 32 breakfast seminars across the country. We had over 800 agents come out. That spoke volumes. They know there’s a buzz and they want to know more.”

As well as the stand-alone all-ages Ziva and adults-only Zilara resorts in Mexico and Jamaica, the Hyatt Ziva Cancun property is blending the two with a newly-branded adults-only offering in a separate tower.

The marketing description is ‘Turquoize Tower, The Adults-Only Experience at Hyatt Ziva Cancun.’ Cosentino compares the 168 suite, 3-category offering to the Nobu Hotel resort-within-a- resort at Caesars Palace Las Vegas.

The all-beachfront tower features ample rooms with nearly 700 square feet of living area plus an oversized balcony with a private hot tub and seating area.

Turquoize guests enjoy a private check-in and reception area, exclusive adult-only dining at a French restaurant, and a rooftop infinity pool. Rooms have direct elevator access to the spa and there are even ocean views from the bathroom thanks to what Hyatt describes as a “unique floor to ceiling glass corner shower.”

Cosentino says the Turquoize tower adds to Hyatt Ziva Cancun’s appeal as a wedding destination by offering something for every member of the party.

“Our hotels are not humongous – Hyatt Ziva Los Cabos is the largest at 591 rooms – so our average wedding size is 25-35 rooms or 60-70 people. We’ve done quite a few elaborate East Indian weddings among others, and we’ve been getting great feedback.”

The Hyatt resorts have recently introduced a Social Groups Program for weddings, family reunions, golf groups and others. Features include comp ratios as low as 1 for 5, reduced deposits, relaxed cancellation and attrition and upgrades for the group leader. There’s a dedicated call centre open 6 days a week at 1-888-963-7643.

The properties are also in high demand for corporate groups, many of which have longstanding relationships with Hyatt. Chicago-based Michael Carr is dedicated to the MICE market and happy to assist with Canadian groups, Cosentino says.

The former agent says the company firmly supports the retail community with education, marketing support, hosted fams and a Preferred Agent program that rewards sellers with ‘Agent Cash.’

Travel professionals can enroll at Once registered, bookings are rewarded with a US$50-$160 booking bonus depending on room category and duration. Booking agents can earn bonuses with social and wedding groups too.

As well, agents can choose a complimentary in-room amenity, presented to the guest as courtesy of the agent.

“We want the agents to shine,” says Cosentino. “Agent Cash is a way of saying ‘thank you’ to agents who are passionate about the product and help paint a picture of the Hyatt Ziva and Zilara experience in the minds of their clients. That’s the value agents bring.”
