This well-established Spanish brand also offers a winning blend of extraordinary beach locations, beautifully laid out properties, an impressive selection of gastronomic experiences and excellent entertainment and recreation programs to keep all members of the family happy.

Located on the shores of Maroma Bay, named one of the 10 most beautiful beaches in the world, the Catalonia Playa Maroma is a big hit with Canadian families.

“The location is just spectacular,” Greta Hidalgo, Catalonia’s sales manager for North America, Mexico and the Dominican Republic, told Open Jaw, “And as it’s a four-star property, it offers great value.

“It’s popular with Canadians because it’s so beautiful. In the bay in front of the property we have a coral reef -- the second largest in the world -- so this is a great resort for divers. There really is no other resort like it.”

The Catalonia Playa Maroma has also undergone some impressive revamps recently.

“We have a renovated pool and we’ve added a new swim-up bar. Our clients were always asking for a swim-up bar and now they have it!” laughed Hidalgo.

“We also have new restaurants next to the pool area. Last year we totally renovated all of the restaurants and we now have an Asian restaurant with teppanyaki, as well as Spanish tapas, Italian, Mexican and the grill restaurant.”

Located in the lively Puerto Aventuras development, just 15 minutes south of Playa del Carmen, the four-star Catalonia Riviera Maya & Yucatan Beach Resort & Spa provides family groups with incredible value.

“This resort is full of life,” enthused Hidalgo, “And it’s great for active families because it has a big entertainment team and a kids’ club -- so it’s a lot of fun all day long.”

The Catalonia Yucatan Beach Resort & Spa is a great option for large family groups, as it offers some especially appealing room options for families who like to spend time together.

“We have some great Privilege Family Suites for big families who are travelling with grandparents or nannies, because they have a maximum occupancy of six people,” added Hidalgo. “They have two queen beds in the bedroom and a pull-out sofa in the living room, as well as a plunge pool on the terrace. They’re really nice for those families who like to stay together on vacation.”

Another reason the Catalonia Yucatan Beach Resort & Spa is so popular with Canadian families is that it boasts a wave-free lagoon area for the kids to swim in.

“Families love it because we have the beach at the front of the resort, but to the left we also have a lagoon area. It has water from the ocean, but it’s a great area for kids because it’s not wavy. Families love to spend the day there because they don’t have to worry about waves and the kids.”

The resort’s location within the Puerto Aventuras complex is also a big hit with families: “Our guests can just walk out of their hotel and in five minutes they’re at the marina. The area is full of life and you can even go swimming with dolphins there. There’s also a mall and lots of different restaurants to choose from. Our Canadian visitors just love it.”
