Hyatt Ziva & Hyatt Zilara: Something For Everyone

Sister properties mirror each other, but each ‘Z’ tells its own story

As side-by-side twin properties, Hyatt Ziva Cap Cana and Hyatt Zilara Cap Cana together welcome all types of travellers without compromising any aspect of luxury, whether it's a couple, family, group of friends or consortium of professionals.

Both resorts feature 375 contemporary oceanfront suites including indulgent Two-Bedroom and Swim-Up Suites for a total of 750 rooms throughout the property, all facing the Caribbean Sea.

Although Hyatt Ziva and Hyatt Zilara Cap Cana mirror each other, each has its own personality and tells its own story.

The general architectural and interior design character of Ziva is organic, freeform and whimsical, from amorphously-shaped mirrors in the bathrooms to an asymmetrical swimming pool.

There are no long axes; rather, the resort unfolds with a meandering 'sequence of surprises' inspired by nature. By the same token, the lobby is a memorable space designed around a signature wooden bar that twists and winds around the space like a wooden snake.

The adults-only Hyatt Zilara concept is more sophisticated, serene and slightly more formal.

The colour palette incorporates neutral tones – soft creams and grays – that contrast with vibrant explosions of colour in the form of art.

There are shared amenities and facilities between the two resorts, and although all guests staying at Hyatt Zilara can use the facilities over on the Ziva side, only Ziva guests that are 18+ can venture onto the adjacent property.

There are 12 restaurant options, each with a unique theme and gorgeous décor. Both sides have their own coffee shops and buffet, and 24-hour in-room dining is also another option.

A particularity of Hyatt's Ziva and Zilara concept is that no reservations are required for restaurants.

"We don't force reservations in our à la carte restaurants. Sometimes, you don't know what you want for dinner until you're taking a shower in the evening," Rose Cosentino, Vice President, Sales – Canada with parent company Playa Hotels and Resorts says. "We also don't charge extra for reservations."

With wellness being a big component for the Playa brand, Hyatt Ziva Cap Cana and Hyatt Zilara Cap Cana's The Refinery fitness centre is more than just your typical gym.

The Refinery fitness centre

The two-story complex occupies a massive 14,000-square-foot warehouse building with industrial trusses and beams and exposed red brick – it also happens to be the Hyatt Zilara and Hyatt Ziva brand's largest-ever health and wellness facility.

"It's like a boxing gym in the Bronx," says Cosentino. "And it doesn't just have your standard weights with machines – there are two cardio areas, Zumba and spinning rooms, and areas where you could use the battle ropes or TRX straps, or do activities like yoga and Pilates."

Another special design concept is the Zen Spa. Using the turquoise Larimar gemstone only found in the D.R. as inspiration and in accent pieces, the 26,900 sq. ft spa, accessible by both Ziva and Zilara guests, is an underground oasis that gives the feeling of being in a cave system.

"The spa is like a non-building because it's built underground like a cave. It's a very contemporary, cool concept in itself," says Cosentino.

Zen Spa

Zen Spa features 18 massage rooms, hydrotherapy pools with a rock outcrop at the entry and a waterfall, an outdoor oasis lagoon and a full-service beauty salon.

Over on the all-ages Ziva side, the "Lost City Of Anac Pac" KidZ Club and the "Time Capsule" Teen Club offer a variety of supervised age-appropriate activities for younger guests, including a climbing wall and a VR experience, respectively.

With 45,000 sq.ft. of outdoor and indoor meeting and event space -- including a 15,000 sq.ft. Grand Ballroom, a 28,500 sq.ft. Event Lawn and 5.000 sq.ft. covered Terrace --  the beachfront Cap Cana resort is an especially great choice for large gatherings, weddings, and multigenerational travel.

"This project has allowed us to think about space for MICE and groups properly, in a way that we haven't been able to before," says Cosentino.
