Fall Friends Getaways With Bahia Principe & Transat

As Bahia Principe remodels its PUJ offering, friend-getaways are easier than ever

Are you ready for 1NOV? If you sell Punta Cana, you should be. Not only does the newly-revamped and renamed Luxury Bahia Principe Ambar open its doors, but the Luxury Bahia Principe Ambar Green is being renamed as the Grand Bahia Principe Aquamarine.

Agents and clients alike will be sitting up and paying attention to the changes, because Bahia Principe is the largest hotelier in the Dominican Republic, offering 4,000 rooms in total.

“We have seven hotels in total in Punta Cana,” explained Gavin Jimenez, national accounts manager at Bahia Principe. “There’s the family-friendly Grand Bahia Principe Turquesa; the beachfront Grand Bahia Principe Bavaro and the Grand Bahia Principe. Then there’s our Luxury brand hotels, the Luxury Bahia Principe Esmerelda and -- reopening this NOV -- the Luxury Bahia Principe Ambar, which was formerly known as the Ambar Blue. Then we have the Grand Bahia Aquamarine, which was formerly known as the Luxury Bahia Principe Ambar Green. And then there’s our newest hotel in that complex, the Fantasia Bahia Principe.”

That’s a whole lot of inventory to fill, so it comes as no surprise to learn that Bahia Principe works closely with Transat to drive the business.

“We've been in business as a hotelier for over 20 years and Transat has been there since the beginning,” explained Jimenez. “Bahia Principe and Transat are almost like family -- and when clients think about Bahia Principe, a lot of them think it’s synonymous with Transat.”

Hand in hand, the two companies offer clients some impressive exclusive products and services.

“In terms of exclusivity with Transat, we have the Royal Golden Club,” added Jimenez. “This essentially means that we have exclusive sections of our resorts that are sold only by Transat in Canada. The benefits of this are numerous, from preferred beachfront locations to private check-ins and VIP areas. The Royal Golden Club also features full a la carte dining at the Bahia Principe Punta Cana, which offers great value as part of our ‘Family and Friends’ experience.”

There are clearly some superb perks for clients, but what about agents? Why should they book Bahia Principe properties through Transat?

“You have two trusted brands working very closely together,” explained Jimenez. “Transat is our largest supplier in Canada, so we work closely with their product and sales team. There are always joint promotions for agents, and with our Bahia Principe Rewards Program and Transat’s BonBon Rewards -- agents can basically double-dip on rewards.”

In order to make the most of the rewards on offer, what markets should travel agents be targeting this fall? According to Jimenez, it’s all about groups of friends at this time of year.

“When it comes to booking groups of friends for the fall, I definitely would recommend targeting those who are looking for a pre-holidays break. I find that the best prices are typically before the start of the winter season, which would be before the end of October, so if you have clients who are looking for a fall friends’ trip or a girls' getaway or bachelor/bachelorette party, I would definitely recommend some of our adults-only properties. If they’re looking for a lot of activities I suggest the Grand Bahia Principe Aquamarine. If they’re looking at something that's more relaxing with a swim-up suite or something new, I would suggest the Luxury Bahia Principe Ambar.”
